The three-day operation conducted at the end of July supported ongoing efforts to remove unqualified truck drivers from U.S. roads.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) have announced the results of a joint operation targeting unqualified truck drivers. The two agencies conducted a three-day operation from July 28 through July 30 alongside Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and state highway patrols to conduct roadside checks in order to identify illegal, unvetted, and unsafe drivers.
“When illegal aliens are behind the wheels of semi-trucks, they are putting American lives in danger,” said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “With the latest wave of Operation Highway Shield, DHS and our partners at the Department of Transportation have removed more than 800 dangerous truckers from our roadways, including more than 50 illegal aliens and more than 30 drivers who failed English Language Proficiency tests.“
The joint operation also recovered nearly $1 million in stolen cargo.
